I obsessed over this editorial for months. Personally I think Catherine Mcneil is one of the most beautiful women in the world. She looks like a cat. (but not this kind of cat... http://tinyurl.com/prfnkq ....or this kind of cat... http://tinyurl.com/lh4ofm )
Ok, maybe a cat comparison wasn't the best idea. But she does have a feline-esque vibe about her. Combined with the AMAZING clothes and the Indian setting (a la the Gemma Ward shoot I previously posted), it has this mysterious allure, like Catherine is a Maharani locked away in a big tall tower, lamenting the loss of her social life. When I visited India in January, I discovered that this was actually a likely possibility...apparently it was a bit of a craze there a few hundred years ago to lock your daughters and wives away in pretty buildings (who knew?) What's more, all the Indian women I saw while there actually wore jewelry and face paint like that, so I respect Vogue for being culturally accurate.
Anyway, I just loved how Vogue Australia styed this shoot, and the photos inspired my year eleven formal outfit . But I didn't look anywhere near as good as Catherine.

Oh Gisele. You really are one of a kind. Only you could enter a soccer pitch with a team of large, soccer-playing men, and actually look like you belong there....whilst still looking incredibly stylish. I don't know if you've ever even played soccer before, but you are very convincing as the only-female-on-the-team-who-insists-on-playing-in-designer-dresses-but-can-hold-her-own-against-the-boys.
This shoot is a prime example of my earlier claim that Gisele may have been a contortionist in a former life. She has so much movement in every photo. This is from a 2005 issue of US Vogue, which I saved just for these photos. The concept is brilliant, the photos even more so, and Gisele...well....it goes without saying really.

Abbey-Lee channeling Brigitte Bardot in Vogue Australia's "And God Created Woman" shoot. I don't think I've ever met a single fashion-forward girl who isn't obsessed with everything Abbey-Lee Kershaw does. She's just so gorgeous and natural...and Australian! The clothes in this editorial are really feminine, and I covet the soft waves in her hair. Eevery picture tells a different story. Gorgeous! (p.s. if you want more, check out this video filmed during the shoot: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MdzPhE1Kv6U ) And yes....I am aware that this shoot also features a beach. Sorry.

This issue of Vogue Australia sold really well...I think mainly because it featured an article I wrote whilst doing work experience at their Sydney offices. But seriously, I think it sold well because Gemma Ward was at her peak of popularity, the cover was enthusiastically colourful, and people are generally just drawn to pom poms. It's one of my favourites because I love how it captured the "global" trend that was dominating the runways in '07 (mainly at Balenciaga), it was different and refreshing, and the Indian setting was such a huge contrast to anything else Vogue had shot for a long time. I liked it so much, it inspired me to do my own global-style shoot (see "Born Ruffian")

Ok. I know there's a theme emerging here. BEACHES. I LOVE EM. I can't help it, everything just looks so much better set against a backdrop of white sand and blue sea. And I love the idea of dressing up to go to the beach. I promise this is my last beach shoot on the countdown (I think).
Behati Prinsloo on Santa Monica Beach for Flair Magazine. On a side note, Santa Monica may be the best place in the world, in my opinion. I make a pilgrimage there every 2 years or so just to pay my respects. So that just makes me love this shoot even more. And those pink boots are killer.
Here's me trying (and failing) to recreate this magic when I was in Santa Monica in December:

"Slavs of Fashion" in Vanity Fair. So many beautiful people. All on one beach. You can't fault it, really.
